Hanska City Council – Regular Meeting

May 8th, 2023

6pm – Hanska Community Center

Regular meeting was called to order by Mayor Vee at 6:00pm. Members present Vee, Geiger, Miller, Kjelshus, and Larson. Members absent: None

Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Geiger moved to approve the agenda. Seconded by Larson. Motion passed.

Open Citizens Comments: Cullen Paulson informed the council that The Paulson’s will no longer be purchasing the Muni. They had an appraisal done of the building and what the building inside contains separated out. There are 90 days to transfer names on the paperwork. Cinnamon will send Paulson an email with information that he needs to move forward.

Kjelshus moved to approve minutes from April 10th meeting. Seconded by Larson. Motion passed

Miller moved to approve City and Muni claims. Seconded by Larson. Motion passed.

Muni-

Library- Spring Fling was a success. The library made $2704.73.

Fire Department- Larson gave update. Just over $69,000 in checkbook. FD received quotes for redoing the concrete in front of the fire hall. Wurtzberger quoted $18,500 and Isaacson’s quoted $20,000. After discussion FD decided to go with Isaacson’s due to the fact the FD will be able to supply manpower when needed and cut down on labor costs. FD will pay for half out of the Hanska Community Fire Assoc Fund and the other half will come from the Relief Assoc general fund. FD is going to get quotes for repainting the exterior of the fire Hall. FD is still working with vendors on pricing for SCBA’s. approx. price around $150,000.

Public works-

City Clerk- No water was shut off in April. 12 water shut offs were sent out in May. Dan and Cinnamon will sign the deed for Sowers to purchase land in front of the notary. Hanska Night out will be August 22, 2023. Air slide, bounce crayon, ice cream truck, Josh Norman, and face painting are all booked. Free hot dog meals and cookies will be available.

A resolution granting 3.2 Malt Liquor License to Hanska Baseball was presented. All members were in favor.

A resolution granting off sale liquor license to Mark Cooling at Last Chance Saloon was presented. Cinnamon informed the council that the council could approve the license, but Last Chance Saloon cannot sell any off sale until they get the approval from the state. All members were in favor.

Other- Geiger asked about walking around town before city wide clean-up and talking to property owners. This will be done on Tuesday. Tuesday May 23rd will be clean-up at the city park and baseball park. A fence will be put up in front of the Community Center, once it dries up, along with a couple bushes and some mulch.

Kjelshus made a motion to adjourn, Geiger seconded, meeting was adjourned at 6:19pm
