Hanska City Council – Regular Meeting
November 14th 2022
6pm – Hanska Community Center
Regular meeting was called to order by Mayor Vee at 6:00pm. Members present: Vee, Geiger, Miller, Strom, and Larson. Members absent: None
Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Geiger moved to approve the agenda. Seconded by Miller. Motion passed.
Larson moved to approve minutes from October 11th. Seconded by Strom. Motion passed
Strom moved to approve City and Muni claims. Seconded by Geiger. Motion passed.
Muni- Clerk gave updates on MUNI. Eddy would like to meet with city council in the next 2-3 weeks. Eddy has more questions, depending on the outcome he will make an offer on the MUNI. Eddy has been communicating with clerk. Eddy has gotten insurance info, looked into a food license. Johnson Brothers took back 41 cases of liquor, Break Through will not call back. Workers’ comp and liquor liability insurance has been cancelled for 2023. Clerk did keep the buyer’s card just in case council makes another go at the MUNI. Cable and garbage have been cancelled.
Library- Mayor Vee gave update. Beer and cider tasting is November 18th 6:30-8:30 at the Last Chance. $10.00 per ticket to taste the different drinks. There will be a raffle, $2.00 per ticket to enter. Wendy is still out and is hoping to be back around Christmas. Roxanne Oscarson has applied for part time library help. Council has approved her; Clerk will run the background check. Christmas in Hanska is scheduled, clerk ordered more Hanska items to be sold that day.
Public works- 40 water meters left. The cities north shed is about a 1/3 on the coop property. Dan talked to Jerry at the coop about getting a price to purchase the land that the shed sits on. Jerry will bring it up at the next coop meeting.
City Clerk- $1300.00 was billed in November for unmetered service, this is for anyone who didn’t get their meter updated by the end of October. 14 water shut offs were sent out in November, 2 water shut offs were done in October. Clerk brought up cell phone reimbursement, cities amount now is $25.00 per month, most cities are $40.00-50.00 per month. Larson made a motion to up cell phone reimbursement to $35.00 per month. Seconded by Geiger. Motion passed. Thor Nelson from the MN Department of Natural Resources called because he got a complaint from a city resident about recycling blowing from bins. Thor also said this resident called the MPCA about this. Clerk told Thor that the city put up a camera and has sent pictures to planning and zoning for unlawful dumping, nothing has been done after this point. Thor said call the Brown County Sheriffs office and see what they say. Sheriffs’ office said they are unsure of who should be the complaint RVS owns the bins, program is run by planning and zoning and bins are on city property.
Last Chance Saloon applies for the 2023 liquor license.
Strom made a motion to approve Resolution 2022-9 Granting Liquor License to Mark Cooling at Last Chance Saloon. Seconded by Geiger. Motion Passed.
