Hanska City Council – Regular Meeting

March 13th, 2023

6pm – Hanska Community Center

Regular meeting was called to order by Mayor Vee at 6:00pm. Members present: Vee, Geiger, Miller, Kjelshus, and Larson. Members absent: None

Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Geiger moved to approve the agenda. Seconded by Kjelshus. Motion passed.

Open Citizen Comments: One citizen in attendance, had no comments.

Geiger moved to approve minutes from February 13th, February 17th and March 6th 2023. Seconded by Larson. Motion passed

Miller moved to approve City and Muni claims. Seconded by Geiger. Motion passed.

Muni- Clerk gave updates on MUNI. City attorney has the purchase agreement done, Paulson’s need to sign and put down the $2500.00 as earnest money. Clerk stopped the MUNI phone, Paulson’s can keep the bar number if they want. Spot On has been stopped, support for the POS system.

Geiger moved to approve the Purchase Agreement between the City of Hanska and OneEleven LLC. Seconded by Larson. Vote was taken. Larson Yes, Kjelshus Yes, Miller Yes, Geiger Yes.

Library- Clerk gave update. Board has decided on brats, hotdogs, beans, sauerkraut and water, this will be a free will donation. Amy has started the training through TDS and new computer system is up and running.

Fire Department: Larson gave update. Fire Department is looking for a grant writer.

Public works- No updates.

City Clerk- Clerk went over the policies of council members talking outside of meetings. Clerk went over the 2023 fireworks, there are some changes on the items Tauer went over the items with the sales rep. Cost is $7200.00 again this year. Clerk got bids on metal hanging flower baskets. Price of the 16″ wire hanging baskets that use the moss mat liners is $ 45.00. Each year the moss mat would need to be replaced cost is $15.00 (this would be additional to the $45.00 for the first year.) The total cost for planting, up keep on the baskets for the growing period would be $95.00.  Council said to go with these flower baskets, after the 1st year the cost is the same as the past, the baskets will be much nicer. Juneteenth is now a federal holiday and needs to be adopted by the city.

Miller moved to adopt Juneteenth as a Paid Holiday. Seconded by Kjelshus. Motion passed.

Council Comments: Larson asked about the status of Sowers land purchase. Clerk said the city attorney is working on it. Vee brought up garbage/junk in people’s yards, clerk will send out letters and remind them of spring cleanup and there is no additional charge to them. Vee wanted to know thoughts on Waste Management and recycle bins also being put on the street, Geiger said yes but they city can’t go back on that in the future. Vee also brought up a map being added to the Welcome to Hanska letter.

Geiger made a motion to adjourn, Larson seconded, meeting was adjourned at 6:40pm.
