Hanska City Council – Regular Meeting

April 11, 2022

6pm – Hanska Community Center

Regular Meeting was called to order by Mayor Vee at 6:00pm. Members present: Vee, Geiger, Miller, Strom and Larson. Members absent: None

Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Geiger moved to approve the agenda. Seconded by Miller. Motion passed.

Steve & Kelly Olson were present – Olson’s would like to put up at 44x100x22 shed on parcel ID 00702400102020, 302 West 4th ST. Yard will be landscaped, some trees maybe relocated and new ones added. Building will have security, sewer, water and electric will be added at a later time. Council approved building permit, Olson will stop at City Hall to pay and pick up permit.

Megan Anderson was present – Anderson bought half of the building on 114 Broadway. Anderson will be opening up a coffee shop, bakery. Coffee and rolls in the AM. Anderson does not have an opening date at this time.

Dillion Brueske was present – Brueske wants to put up a 7-foot fence on the side and back of his property located at 102 East 1st St E. Fence would be treated wood, 4×4 in cement. City Ordnance 95.03 RESIDENTIAL REGULATIONS. Side and rear yard requirements. No fence or wall located in a side or a rear yard shall be of height exceeding four feet, measured from its top edge to the ground at any point. Larson moved to approve a variance for 7-foot fence. Seconded by Geiger. Motion passed.

Bolton & Menk Derek Behrens was present – Behrens gave an update on the Summit Street project. 200 feet -100 block and 375 feet on the 200 block of sidewalk will be replaced. Last layer of asphalt and sod will be done. Last Work will start up the 2nd half of May and be completed by early June. Clerk will send letters to Summit residents telling them to contact Matt at Bolton & Menk if they want to have any additional work done on sidewalks or steps.

Geiger moved to approve minutes from March 14th, March 29th and April 1st, 2022 meetings. Seconded by Strom. Motion passed.

Miller moved to approve City and Muni claims. Seconded by Strom. Motion passed.

Muni – Clerk Moldan gave Muni update. New bartender Amanda P quit 4.11.22 without working one shift. Natalie Christianson applied for Muni manager Moldan will call to set up an interview. Joe will open the Muni at noon on Saturday 4.23.22 for Spring Fling-Taco Truck. Moldan has been doing the schedule, working with sales reps and deliveries, cleaning, staff issues, pall tabs – e tabs and cash drawer. Council moved to pay Moldan additional pay for Muni manger duties. 19.23 an hour Clerk salary divided by 2080 hours. Vee found Windschital Refrigeration to do ice machine cleaning, cost is less then Midwest. Vee will get them on a 6-month schedule. Vee is looking into additional entertainment for 4.23.22 3-5pm.

Library – Library Director Lisa Doege didn’t get the other job. Spring Fling Craft Show is 4/23/2022. Items have been donated for a silent auction. Tables will be set up on Friday April 22nd.

Public Works – 50 water meters are needed; clerk will order them for a total of $7905.00. There was discussion about moving the recycling to another location. Vee brought up having residents move garbage pickup from alleyways to main roads to help cut the cost of gravel/ maintenance. City Wide Clean up is scheduled for May 19th-21st. Flag rope broke again.

City Clerk – City Audit went well; Sarah will be at the June City Council meeting. Strassburg will make monthly payments and pay off the $985.00 by the end of the year. Clerk asked for help cleaning files up in the basement. Council approved hiring help for minimum wage.

Strom made motion to adjourn at 7:32pm. Seconded by Larson. Meeting adjourned.

EDA called to order by mayor Vee at 7:32

EDA –Strom brought up windows leaking and ice buildup in the winter. Strom proposed replacing 4 front windows this year and the rest next year. Clerk will get 3 bids.

 

Larson made motion to adjourn at 7:45pm. Seconded by Strom. Meeting adjourned.
