Hanska City Council – Regular Meeting

June 13th, 2022

6pm – Hanska Community Center

Regular meeting was called to order by Mayor Vee at 5:59pm. Members present: Vee, Geiger, Miller, Strom, and Larson. Members absent: None

Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Strom moved to approve the agenda. Seconded by Geiger. Motion passed.

Sara Oberloh presented the 2021 Audit. General fund is holding strong, water fund is in the positive, loss in sewer, rates will need to be increased. City has about $75,000 that can be used for projects. The money can also be moved to another account and keep building on that amount. The unmarked fund should be down to 35-50% if the city would want to go after grants.

Gene Smith – Smith wants to remove a portion of curb and gutter along his driveway. Council said this was okay as long as the removal is done correct and made to look nice. Smith also brought up the condition of yards in the City of Hanska. Clerk will get a list of address and send letters.

Travis Winter Bolton & Menk – Final pay request will be coming the in the next few weeks. Paving and cement work is finished up. After the final contract is closed there is there is a 2-year warranty.

Geiger moved to approve minutes from May 9th meeting. Seconded by Strom. Motion passed

Larson moved to approve City and Muni claims. Seconded by Miller. Motion passed.

Muni- Katie is the new MUNI manager. 2 new bartenders have been hired, Toni and Dan will be working every other Saturday. Katie brought up opening Monday and Tuesday, council wants to wait until bar is fully staffed and everyone is trained. Clerk has been working on adjusting all pricing on items. Some items were being sold for less than the cost paid for the item. Clerk set prices on higher end to cover the rising cost and fuel surcharges. Hours need to be changed in the Hanska Herald. Katie has been working on drinks for the 4th of July weekend.

Library- 2 interviews have been set for the library director position. September 16th is the wine pull October is spaghetti dinner. Summer reading program has started and numbers are up.

Public works- Ramp has been fixed on the Stabbur. Stabbur needs to be stained, council said hold off on that. Tauer is going to get mulch for around Hanska.

City Clerk- Clerk brought up raising water and sewer rates. Motion was made by Vee to add $3.00 to water and sewer rates, 2nd by Strom. Clerk talked about city wide clean up and adding a fee into the water bills that would cover the city wide clean up. Hanska residents can recycle any items at no addition charge, the amount will be covered in utility bills. Council approved a fee of $2.00. Clerk will contract fuel rates for winter.

Open- Geiger is working on grants for the community center.

Geiger made a motion to adjourn, Miller seconded, meeting was adjourned at 7:27pm
