Hanska City Council – Regular Meeting

August 8th, 2022

6pm – Hanska Community Center

Regular meeting was called to order by Mayor Vee at 6:00pm. Members present: Vee, Geiger, Miller, Strom, and Larson. Members absent: None

Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Strom moved to approve the agenda. Seconded by Geiger. Motion passed.

Don Grams – Grams was representing the Zion Lutheran Church and wanting an update on the alley. Mayor Vee said Bolton & Menk did not do an updated estimate, they City had the original estimate and the amount would only go up. At this time the City does not have the funds to cover the cost paving the alley. Grams brought up having a petition signed by everyone on the block. Clerk said this was okay all residents can pay for the paving of alley. Larson said to get 3 paving bids. Tauer will get 3 bids.

Geiger moved to approve minutes from July 11th 2022. Seconded by Larson. Motion passed

Larson moved to approve City and Muni claims. Seconded by Strom. Motion passed.

Muni- Katie MUNI manager was present. Katie booked a DJ for Halloween party on Saturday October 29th 2022, 7:00pm-11:00pm cost of $500.00. Gerry Horner contacted Katie about karaoke at the MUNI, the cost is $250.00 per time. Council was in agreement to book Gerry, Larson and Miller thought it was better to wait until fall/winter. Meat raffle will start in October. Katie asked if there should be 2 bartenders scheduled for events, council said yes. Bartender Dan is taking time off for personal reasons, Toni was off because of Covid. An interview for a bartender is scheduled for Wednesday August 10th at 3:30pm.

Library- Mayor Vee gave update. 3 estimates for concrete slab and sidewalk. Robert Fitterer’s bid was the lowest and can complete the work in two weeks. Miller moved to approve Robert Fitterer’s bid. Seconded by Strom. Motion passed. September 16th will be the wine pull and the craft show will be December 10th.

Public works- Tauer had no updates.

City Clerk- Clerk sent out fifteen water shut offs. Clerk brought up charging for park and rec, after discussion council didn’t think it was a good idea to charge. Clerk gave update on Hanska night out, Fire Dept, Ice Cream truck, Face Painting, Hotdog meal, Sweet Sisters, MN ST Patrol, Bounce Slide and kids games. Clerk is looking for more volunteers.

Open- Mayor Vee noted that the garage at 127 East 4th St Sowers is partly on the city’s property. Mayor vee wanted to know what should be done, council said let it be and if Sowers would sell the city will address it at that time. Vee brought up the condition of lawns in town, after discussion council didn’t make any decisions on how to address this.

Larson made a motion to adjourn, Miller seconded, meeting was adjourned at 6:50pm.
